Fully automated marshalling process at Home Bargains

Challenge

How to effectively address recruitment challenges?

Due to its remote location, Home Bargains's regional distribution center in Amesbury has faced a major recruiting challenge. The center required a large workforce for labor-intensive and non-value-added tasks, which was difficult to find and retain. Home Bargains aimed to reduce the recruitment burden and operational costs by automating the marshalling process. The introduction of Lowpad significantly reduced the workforce, easing recruitment challenges and improving efficiency.

Solution

Large-scale automated marshaling solution

Lowpad successfully implemented a large-scale automated marshaling solution at Home Bargains. The system processes over 200,000 roll cages weekly using 91 Lowpad AMRs and 36 handover locations, 21 of which are fully automated. We created a fully integrated process by integrating new equipment with Home Bargains' existing systems. As a result, the already modern Amesbury distribution center is now working even more efficiently. Through the seamless integration of new equipment with Home Bargains’ existing infrastructure, Lowpad has effectively created a fully integrated process. This has enabled a streamlined, automated process from pallet intake into the warehouse to dispatch pick stock in roll cages, with minimal manual intervention required. The result is an effective, 24/7 operational system that significantly reduces the dependency on manual resources.

Lowpad has significantly reduced the number of workers required at our regional distribution center, addressing our recruitment challenges and resulting in substantial cost savings.
